Event Description:
We are planning a Full Moon moonlight picnic in
the Turtle Event Garden. August 2 the full moon rises at 8:46 PM sets at 7:26 AM. I think we'll invite people to come at 9:30 PM. We will have white tables clothes, candles, fairy lights and some kind of music, a cello would be nice. Working on a menu.
The first picnics were celebrations of freedom and conviviality. After the French Revolution, the parks opened to the public for the first time in France, and a generation of baguette-toting bon vivants lugged their wines, blankets, and baskets to feast in open air. We have a peaceful garden with trees. We have portable tables and chairs so we'll use them. We make fabulous baguettes so we're more than half way there.
While etymologists quibble, the original French term “pique-nique” was believed to mean pick a niche - or select a place - and the quality of the experience depended on location, food and company.
With the summer's heat bearing heavily upon us and the Fourth of July weekend still fresh in mind, we turned our attention to reviving this old French tradition, and are consulting with various picnic masters regarding the details. So...save the Date August 2, 2019 9:30 pm. come enjoy the cool of the evening, good food, good company and watch the moon rise over Brownwood.
